History of the society.

Founded in 2005.

An exploratory meeting was held in Denis Kennys, Ceadogan Rugs Showroom, in Barrystown, Wellingtonbridge on 8th February 2005. During that meeting it was decided to hold a general meeting with the aim of setting up a historical society for the parish of Bannow and surrounding areas. A date and venue was decided upon and Bannow Historical Society held its first general meeting in Staffords Lounge, Tullycanna on the 8th March 2005. The response to the poster campaign, which heralded the intention to form the new society exceeded expectations. 25 members were enrolled on the night and many others sent their regrets and pledged their support and patronage for the future.
