Objectives of the society.

Articles of Bannow Historical Society

1. The name of the Society will be “Bannow Historical Society”

2. The society will consist of a group of paid up members.

3. The fee for membership will be €10.00 with a review at every Annual General Meeting.

4. A bank account will be opened and a treasurer appointed to manage the Society funds.

5. Paid up members will be eligible to stand for election to the organisational committee.

6. Paid up members will be eligible to nominate and vote for committee candidates.

7. The organisational committee will be elected by paid up members at a General Meeting on March 8th 2005 and thenceforth annually.
 
The committee will include:
a: Chairperson
b: Secretary
c: Treasurer
d: Vice Chairperson
e: P.R.O.
f: 6 Additional council members

8. The Society will promote, research and encourage interest in Local History through a quarterly newsletter, the publication of a
bi-annual journal, lectures and historical outings. Other media outlets may be considered from time to time.

9. History articles will be solicited and accepted from all sources, members and non-members alike so that an informative and creditable journal may be published May 2008 and thenceforth bi-annually.

10. An editor will be employed/nominated to ensure quality of the journal and all contributors will submit articles either via e-mail or on removable media to the editor no later than 4 months before printing deadline.

11. Meetings will be held on the first Tuesday of every month except January, July and August when no meetings will take place. A calendar of meetings and activities will be printed in each Quarterly Newsletter.

12. The Society will promote a program of folklore collection by interviewing and recording parishioners and by scanning and making copies of old photographs and memorabilia.

13. The Society will encourage the participation of the younger generation in compiling and referencing the history of their communities.

14. The Society will be a member of the Federation of Local History Societies.
